About Kaz

Personality and Appearance
Physical Description: 6'0", slender build, dark, slightly greying hair, a chiseled face with a chin that could cut glass. He has a few faded needle scars on his arms from his "wilder days".

Personality: Kaz has calmed down a bit from his old days on the road, but he's still very friendly and very happy when he's recognized and more than willing to sign autographs for fans. He has a snarky wit and a charming way with words that keeps him on the talk show circuit even though his glory days are behind him. His cheery veneer hides a darker, sadder side that often makes its way into his music.

Sexuality: Despite rumors in the tabloids, 100% straight, but has no problems with the gays. As long as they don't hit on him. top

History and Family
NAME
Kaz in an Old Spice commercial.
History: Steve Kazarian was born into a very conservative Christian family, and growing up, his natural talents for music shined, his parents hoping that he would go into music ministry. In high school, however, he started drifting away from the church and began getting more into that "satanic" rock and roll lifestyle, performing in garage bands and eventually getting gigs in local clubs. He went to college, his parents praying that he would straighten himself out. Instead, he discovered the joys of drugs and alcohol and eventually dropped out to focus full-time on his band. His parents were less than thrilled and, while not completely disowning him, did their best to distance themselves from him, instead focusing on "the good son" who had stayed at home and was getting ready to go to seminary.

By 1983, his band, now known as Inverted Culture, was making quite a name for themselves in the "glam metal" scene. Hair spray and spandex was the order of the day as "Kaz" and the boys were riding high on a string of number one hits and platinum album sales. By the late 80s, sales were starting to sag, however, and Kaz began sliding deeper and deeper into harder drugs, eventually leading to an overdose in 1992 that very nearly cost him his life.

Following the overdose and an extended stay in rehab, Steve retired from active performing, working more as a producer for up and coming bands. But the lure of the crowd was strong, and eventually he began writing and performing again, this time solo, with a much more intimate feel. His first solo album, "Stretch the Truth" went right to the top and his career was back on track. While sales were never quite as good as they were in his glory days, he's done pretty well for himself as a performer, making the rounds of VH1, the talk shows, all the things "has-beens-on-the-way-back" do. He still records occasionally, and tours somewhat, but has been out of the limelight for a while. He just released his autobiography, which quickly climbed the New York Times bestseller list, and is looking forward to this cruise as a paid vacation before settling down to work on what he is calling his "last, best album."

Family: Kaz's parents are long dead, and his brother, a very conservative preacher, never approved of his "rock and roll" lifestyle. He's never married, although there were some close calls. It's entirely possible (in fact, probable) that he has children, from one-night stands, but he's never actually met any of them.

Skills, Strengths, Weaknesses

Special Skills/Abilities: Aside from the obvious musical related talents, Kaz has picked up a few basic skills here and there- he can sew somewhat, enough to mend ripped clothes on the road, and knows basic first aid. As much as he tries, however, he's kinda useless in the kitchen beyond using a microwave.

Personal Weaknesses: Although he's kicked *most* of his addictions, Kaz still struggles with alcohol. He likes to think he has pretty good self-control over it, but if he gets started he turns into quite a icky, nasty, violent mess. He tries to keep himself in good physical condition, but years of hard living have taken their toll on his body- he gets short of breath pretty easily and has a bad back that bothers him constantly, mainly because he refuses to take pain pills and get back on that train again. He's a bit of a mysogynist, racist, and homophobe, although not outwardly, and not really intentionally. It just sometimes slips out, especially when he's in a more "casual" situation.

Personal Strengths: Kaz has seen enough in his life that very little bothers him, even in high stress situations. Given the chance he would probably be a good leader now that he's matured, despite his failures at that in the past. top

(No, I'm not Bruce Campbell, and Kaz is not a real person. This journal is for RP purposes only)
